ATTENTION BIO-GAS ENTREPRENEURS - FEEDER SEPARATION PROGRAM AND TAX HOLIDAY: Union Budget 2014-15 introduces Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), a program aimed at feeder separation and augmentation of power supply to the rural areas and for strengthening sub-transmission and distribution systems. In line of its Gujarat counterpart (i.e. Jyotigram Yojana) DDUGJY aims at creating a new 24X7 electricity supply model by separating the agricultural and non-agricultural feeders. Considering the electricity generation capacity of bio-gas and abundance of agricultural and other organic wastes in rural areas, bio-gas entrepreneurs may consider commercially exploiting this scheme. Also keep in mind the budgetary provision for 10 years tax holiday to undertakings which begin generation, distribution and transmission of power by March 31, 2017 (Refer to paras 32 and 200 of the Budget Speech available at http://indiabudget.nic.in/ub2014-15/bs/bs.pdf).
